Say what you will about Kanye West in 2019 (or just do as I do, and try and pretend that he doesn’t exist), but there’s no denying his impact on/knowledge of music sampling. And if you enjoyed pre-2015 Kanye as much as I did, his sampling opened your eyes to a new world of hidden musical gems that you otherwise would’ve overlooked.
Because of Kanye, I created a Spotify playlist years ago of great hip hop songs and the songs that they sampled. I also find myself searching often for which artists were sampled.
This is one of my favorite songs that Kanye has ever sampled. I’ve always been a fan of the sample on “I Wonder”, but it was really a mixtape of remixes, called Sky High that made me truly appreciate it.
